Booking
How do I book a tattoo with Tiller?
Booking is online through Porter at web.getporter.io/artist/tylergentry. Choose “Tattoo Session” for a custom request or “Flash Tattoo” to claim one of his ready-made designs, then follow the prompts to pick a time.
What is the difference between flash and a custom tattoo?
Flash is a finished design Tiller has already drawn, so you can book it quickly at a set starting price. A custom tattoo is drawn from scratch around your idea, references, size and placement, and is quoted based on the design and time involved.
Can I get one of Tiller’s flash designs?
Yes. Available designs are listed in his Porter flash book with a starting price and estimated session length. Pick the piece you want and book it directly from that page.
Can I bring my own idea or reference photos?
Absolutely. Custom requests are welcome. Share references, the size you have in mind and where it is going on your body when you submit your Tattoo Session request on Porter.
Does Tiller require a deposit?
Deposit amounts and booking policies are shown on Porter during the booking process, so you will know exactly what is required before you confirm.
Does Tiller take walk-ins?
The best way to guarantee a spot is to book on Porter. For questions about same-day openings, message Tiller on Instagram (@tillertattoos) or Facebook.
Pricing
How much does a tattoo cost with Tiller Tattoos?
Price depends on size, detail and session time. On his Porter flash book, pieces start around $300 for a three-hour design and go up to about $800 for full-day, eight-hour pieces. Custom work is quoted after Tiller reviews your idea.
Why do some tattoos cost more than others?
Larger pieces with more color, shading and detail take more hours in the chair and more drawing time beforehand. The estimated session length on each flash design gives you a good idea of the time involved.
Should I tip my tattoo artist?
Tipping is customary in the tattoo industry, much like a salon. Many clients tip around 15 to 20 percent when they are happy with the work, but it is always your choice.
Getting tattooed
How old do I need to be to get a tattoo?
You need to be at least 18 and bring a valid government-issued photo ID to your appointment.
How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Get a good night’s sleep, eat a solid meal beforehand, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol the day before. Wear comfortable clothes that make the area easy to reach, and bring snacks and something to keep you busy for longer sessions.
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Some discomfort is normal. Bony and thin-skinned spots like ribs, feet and the inner arm tend to be more sensitive, while fleshier areas like the outer arm and thigh are usually easier. Being rested and fed helps a lot.
How long does a tattoo session take?
Pieces in Tiller’s flash book are listed at roughly three to eight hours each. Your booking on Porter shows the estimated time for each design.
Aftercare & healing
How do I take care of a new tattoo?
Keep it clean, wash gently with unscented soap and lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply a thin layer of fragrance-free aftercare lotion. Do not pick or scratch, and keep it out of the sun. Always follow the specific instructions you receive at your appointment. See the full aftercare guide on this site.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
The surface usually heals in about two to four weeks. The deeper layers of skin keep settling for a couple of months, so keep protecting it from sun and irritation during that time.
Can I swim after getting a tattoo?
Avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes and the ocean until the tattoo has fully healed on the surface, usually at least two weeks. Soaking a fresh tattoo can cause infection and pull ink.
How do I keep a color tattoo bright?
Sun is the biggest enemy of color. Once healed, use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo every time it is exposed, and keep your skin moisturized. That keeps pinks, blues and yellows popping for years.
